I need ways of promoting myself outside the dealership. I don’t want to sit inside and wait for ups that may never come. What can I do?

Stand on the sidewalk spining a sign.

Find an R63 AMG, use dealer finds to buy it, hold it for me until I’m employed again, I buy it, you can put a dealer tag on it and I’ll drive around promoting BMW of Sterling.

I’d be stunned if you could even find one in the wild. I have seen one, ever. Seen tons of G63s.

As in, promote that you sell for that dealership to drive more people to you, or promote yourself directly towards other job opportunities?

Forehead tattoo of your dealer. Gets tons of attention. Bonus points for Mercedes and Audi teardrops.

I swear I’ve seen one before, but this was like 8-9 years ago when they first came out. It’s also possible I’m not remembering correctly. I see a lot of R-Classes running around here.

There’s one thing everyone loves...clowns. Get a clown suit and wear it around. Of course, you’ll have to wear it outside of work hours, so it’ll probably be late at night. When people see you, they’ll def. want to talk to you.

The Plymouth dealer in my Grandfather’s town would park a new wagon in front of his store when he noticed my grandfathers wagon was rusty. My grandfather would usually buy it.

Facebook posts. Go to local insurance agencies and give them a stack of your cards, have them send you leads and you do the same for customers needing to set up new insurance polices.

Take brochures of popular models where BMW drivers go (Small businesses, dentist waiting rooms etc.) with your card stapled to it. Promote new BMWs where current owners regularly go and ask if you could put your propaganda there.

I’ll tell you what got me to a dealer. Responding to your dealership text messages at any time of the day. Route them right to your phone. I got hooked up with a Honda salesman that way. I was searching for odyssey vans one Sunday evening and texted the listing I was interested in, assuming I’d get a response Monday sometime, but nope, I got a response within a few minutes and before long is was set up the stop by to look at the van. The guy was legit too, a fellow enthusiast and we hit it off. I didn’t end up going with the odyssey, but that wasn’t his fault. I do know if I look for Hondas in the future, I’m only buying from him.

Similar experience from a Chrysler dealer with the internet sales guys. He answers my emails and had a vehicle waiting for me to test drive when I showed up. He was no pressure no bs and we both knew where we stood as far as price. Another good experience. Key is repsond to the emails and texts ASAP and set up a time for folks to stop by, or give them the damn numbers instead of that “hey we have some great deals and we’d like you to come down and take a look” bs. Screw that, cause I’m already on To the next place.

Find local car groups on social media, join, participate as an enthusiast and let people know you are a car salesman in as non-obnoxious way as possible (i.e., offer to help people out, post a pic every once in a while of whatever the best thing in inventory is, etc.). Go to car shows/meets and do the same thing — will your dealership let you take something really nice to a show?

Harass people in facebook car groups about the cars you have for sale. And be a massive prick about it.
